Spring Break goes to the dogs.
Boy Scouts from Troop 502 on the Isle of Palms came together over spring break to make a difference in the community and build dog houses for Gage Gailbreath’s Eagle Scout Project, benefiting Charleston Animal Society’s Pets for Life program. Gage is a volunteer for the animal society and approached them for project ideas to “make a lasting difference in the community,” he said. He had a goal of building five dog houses, but thanks to the generous donations from Southern Lumber and Mill work and Guy C. Lee, he was able to get enough supplies to build 10. The Pets for Life Program’s goal is to keep pets in the homes of owners that they already have. The program supports over 1,900 families and over 2,100 pets in the Charleston area with medical care and supplies for their pets when the family has trouble affording it. LODGE OF THE YEAR 2017

Flippin’ For Islamorada
Island Eye News Photos by Steve Rosamilia Boy Scout Troop 502 held a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper at First United Methodist Church on Isle of Palms to raise funds for their trip to Sea Base High Adventure camp in Islamorada, Florida this summer. Two crews of eight will spend a week sailing, fishing, snorkeling and navigating the Florida Keys during their adventure. “Sea Base is one of four premier High Adventure bases offered by the Boy Scouts in the nation,” William Etheridge, Etiwan District Executive for the Coastal Carolina Council, said. “In addition to local and regional camps throughout the nation, these premiere camps: Northern Tier in Minnesota, Philmont in New Mexico, Sea Base in Florida and the new Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, offer unparalleled outdoor adventures for Scouts wishing to take their experiences to the next level.” The Scouts raised just over $800 toward their trip to Florida during the supper and wish to thank to the First United Methodist church of the Isle of Palms and Harris Teeter for their support and assistance. Boy Scout Troop 502 is chartered by the First United Methodist Church of the Isle of Palms and is a member of the Etiwan District, Coastal Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
