Meet the Eagle Scout who received NESA’s biggest scholarship in 2016
Posted on May 27, 2016 by Bryan Wendell in Awards, Eagle Scout
An Eagle Scout from South Carolina who wants to be an astrophysicist are the recipients of major scholarships from the National Eagle Scout Association.
The young men were honored this morning at NESA’s popular Americanism Breakfast at the BSA’s annual meeting.
William Ceva of Troop 502 of Mount Pleasant, S.C., received the $50,000 NESA STEM Scholarship.
Will wants to study exoplanets, which are planets outside our solar system. As you can see in the video above, Will says his interest in STEM started on a troop campout when a Scoutmaster brought a telescope.
“We saw Jupiter and its moons, and that was really interesting,” Will says. “So after that I got really interested in astronomy.”
His goal: see parts of the universe nobody else has seen. Like, ever.
And with NESA’s help through this life-changing scholarship, there’s nothing standing in his way.
Religious Emblems Program
Catholic Religious Emblem Classes
We are excited to announce our schedule for this years Ad Altere Dei and Pope Pius Catholic religious emblem classes. These classes are designed to increase the scouts faith and to share their faith experiences with their peers. We will meet 2 Sundays per month from 4:00-5:30. Class schedule to be sent out once we have a roster of scouts wanting to participate. Classes will start in March and end in October. We won't meet in July. First class starts on March 12th from 4:00-5:30 at the Russell House at Christ Our King church. On January 5th -7th, 2018 we will go to the religious emblem retreat in Columbia at Camp Barstow. During the retreat, the scouts will have their religious emblem board of review. We will meet part of the time at Christ Our King and part of the time at St. Benedicts. We are asking for adult volunteers to lead a class or classes.
A scout needs to be in 7th grade( by next school year) to participate in Ad Altere Dei and older to participate in Pope Pius ( high school age). A scout needs to purchase the books prior to the first meeting. Adults willing to volunteer can purchase the adult leader book or borrow one from the core leaders. Books can be purchased through the scout store.
We are offering these classes to any Catholic scout in our area so feel free to pass this along to any interested scout.
Please RSVP your interest to participate as a scout or a leader to: Catholic Scouting Religious Emblem classes on GroupMe app.
